RELIABILITY MAINTENANCE

Reliability.

Question: What good is a car that doesn't run?

Another: What good is a car that only runs if you throw money at it to keep getting it fixed?

In order to keep your car reliable there are maintenance steps that must be followed. When they aren't followed, break downs and expensive repairs will follow. You CAN maintain your car and keep it reliable!

01

Basic Auto Theory / Explanation of Systems

Your engine is what provides the power for your car to move forward and backward. Did you know that your engine is dependent on several systems to be able to work? Some systems are required; some just make your driving experience more pleasurable when they work. For example, the heater and air conditioner are part of the cooling system. How the engine works and the systems that support the engine are explained here.

02

Checking & Changing Fuses and Bulbs

The bulbs in your car are in fixtures designed for safety and comfort. When the bulbs burn out some part of your car can't be used as designed. The fuses are the safety measure built in so there wouldn't be an electrical fire. Learn how to check the fuses and replace your bulbs.

03

Lube Oil & Filter, Checking Fluids

Oil is the life blood of your car engine. It lubricates and forms a barrier to keep mechanical parts from seizing. It also cools engine parts and works as a hydraulic fluid. Oil picks up the byproducts of combustion. Dirt comes in with the air and heating and cooling the engine block leaves traces of sludge. The oil carries these infirmities through a filter where they are removed. Other fluids are antifreeze, brake, transmission and power steering fluids.

04

Battery Testing & Maintenance

The battery stores the power to begin the operation of the engine. Without the battery there would be no power to run the starter or run the computer. If your electrical charging system fails the battery backs it up to get you and your car to safety. Maintaining the battery and learning how it works in your car is learned in this session.

05

Change a Tire and Tire Wear

Have you ever heard that gut wrenching thump, thump, thump sound while driving? A flat tire can leave you in a bad spot on the road and endanger your life. In this session you'll learn how to change a flat tire so you can make it to safety and repair the tire. Bald tires or tires with low tread life are more apt to go flat or hydroplane in water and cause an accident. We'll also discuss how to tell when you need to replace your tires.
